| "Two Mountains" is a commission work and its exhibitions about Swiss and Japanese mountains proposed to two important contemporary artists in photography, Naoya Hatakeyama and Balthasar Burkhard, at the occasion of "Dynamic Switzerland" in Japan. Naoya Hatakeyama is one of the most important Japanese artists today. His photographs are full of sensibilities resulting from his observation of the objects to establish close personal relationship with them. On the other hand, Balthasar Burkhard is one of the leading Swiss artists and known for his objective photographs showing impressive physical aspects of the world. I hope that this project provides an occasion to develop new visions to each artist and present a chance for the Swiss and Japanese audience to appreciate the works of two talented artists to celebrate reciprocal respect between two cultures. In connection with EXPO 2005 in Aichi, Pro Helvetia, Arts Council of Switzerland and Presence Switzerland are realising an exciting cultural programme in close collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan. From October 2004 to autumn 2006, a considerable number of Swiss artists are visiting Japan, representing Swiss visual art, design, comics, film, theatre, performances, music and literature. However, Pro Helvetia not only does aim to introduce Swiss art in Japan. Various joint exhibitions, symposium and workshops bringing together Swiss and Japanese artists, will complete the programme. "Two Mountains" is also an integral part of the "0406 Contemporary Swiss Arts Programme". http://www.dynamic-switzerland.ch/jpn/ |
